5 Creative Tips to Bring Diversity and Inclusivity into Any Space
In today’s world, creating inclusive spaces isn’t just important—it’s essential. When we embrace diversity and celebrate each person’s uniqueness, we pave the way for more meaningful connections, stronger communities, and deeper understanding.
While there is no such place in physical existence that is truly perfect, there are small influences that we can make weather through our conversations and everyday practices that could positively impact others sense of inclusion and belonging. And once we move forward with working towards those small practices, then we can eventually apply them to the physical spaces that we live in.
For instance, from understanding the unique stories and perspectives of chronic patients that have eczema, we could “physically” work towards different soaps being offered in public restrooms or accommodations for jobs that have duties where those patients may need to work with gloves. A seemingly small change for some carries a huge impact for another.
Below are some quick thoughts/tips that I have towards building better spaces to build better humans:
1. Embrace Diverse Perspectives
Inclusivity starts with inviting different voices into your circle. Whether it’s at work, in your social life, or through the media you consume, seek out perspectives that differ from your own. Diverse voices bring unique insights, ideas, and solutions, creating a richer, more vibrant environment. Building an inclusive space means actively inviting everyone to the table, ensuring that each voice has the chance to be heard.
2. Celebrate Unique Stories
Every person has a unique journey worth amplifying. From art and personal style to skincare routines that reflect the diversity of skin types, cultures, experiential backgrounds and more, celebrating these individual stories honors the variety that makes our world beautiful. Make a point to uplift and showcase diverse journeys, and you’ll soon see the ripple effect of inspiration and understanding.
3. Practice Skin Inclusivity
Skin inclusivity is about more than skincare products—it's about creating spaces that respect and support all skin types and textures. For people with conditions like eczema, sensitive skin, or unique pigmentation, it’s essential that environments, from workplaces to social circles, are supportive and accommodating. This can mean advocating for skin-friendly products, raising awareness, or simply creating a safe space where people feel seen and valued.
4. Fashion for All Bodies
In an inclusive world, fashion celebrates all body types and sizes. From plus-size clothing options to adaptive fashion for people with disabilities, everyone deserves to feel comfortable, confident, and represented in what they wear. By supporting brands and designers who prioritize inclusivity, we can make fashion an accessible, celebratory space for all.
5. Make Room for Dialogue
Creating an inclusive space means fostering open, honest conversations. Dialogue is one of the most powerful tools we have for breaking down barriers, addressing biases, and promoting empathy. By creating a judgment-free space where people feel safe to share their experiences and perspectives, we cultivate understanding and build connections that can lead to lasting inclusivity.
Let’s Make Inclusivity a Part of Everyday Life
Inclusivity doesn’t require grand gestures—it’s often the small, intentional changes that make the biggest impact. By embracing diverse perspectives, celebrating unique stories, practicing skin inclusivity, advocating for accessible fashion, and making room for dialogue, we can each contribute to a more inclusive world.
